Maji de Koi Shinasai! (Majikoi)

Chris' Route

Visual novel

Date: February 11 2025

I know it seems like my life hasn't been anything except Majikoi from the way I've only been posting about Majikoi.

And I'd like to start of by saying it's even worse than you thought, because I just came out of Granblue Fantasy Guild Wars season, and also just started the soul-crushing grind for Hraesvelgr bullets. May any God out there have mercy on my soul.

The screenshot count is at 1327.

I had a lot of fun with this route. Yamato's sly and cunning attitude and Chris' upright, uptight attitude give them really nice chemistry together, and I think this route had the perfect balance of action, Kawakami family sweetness, and goofy antics. It's just... a certain scene just left a sour taste in my mouth for the rest of the route.

CW: Rape (not pictured, just described)

The goofy stuff I thought was really

like holy shit man
subway footlong

Chris

Chris was probably my least favorite of the main 5 during the prologue. She's pretty stuck up and her being overly blunt was kind of grating sometimes. I eventually really warmed up to her because the writers made her lack of social awareness really funny and cute in her route. It's a product of her being extremely sheltered and coddled by her Lieutenant General dad, amongst other things like her lack of money sense, the Japanophilia she shares with him, and the code of justice she follows and forces onto people.

Eventually Chris' dad realized that (most) Japanese people are normal and not samurai. Shocker. He wants Chris to go home to Germany, but Chris has developed feelings for Yamato and she's now forced to choose her new boyfriend and her dad (and his financial support). Standard romcom drama. Except it looked like Chris wanted to choose her dad at first and she was firm on that decision, as much as it hurt her and Yamato.

I expected Yamato to look inside his Big Bottomless Bag of Bizarre Bodacious Bamboozlement Blueprints ® for some way that he could convince (i.e., trick) Chris' dad to let her stay in Japan, but what happened was

Yamato fucking RAPED Chris.

Yamato loaded up on aphrodisiacs, did a little bit of night creeping. Chris didn't consent because she wanted to stay celibate until the two of them were married (at least at first, but that doesn't vindicate Yamato). Now Yamato is obliged to take care of her, and Chris has to stay in Japan.

That was how he convinced her to stay in Japan.

also Mayucchi peeped and then it's implied that she fucked a horse touched herself with Matsukaze and that was pretty funny at least

so yeah

That was a little disappointing to say the least. Like, is this Yamato a different one from the Yamatos in the other routes? Where's the chicanery? Where's Chris's conviction to stay?

Chris stops receiving money from her dad, and both of them drop out of school to find work to support each other. It was really sweet, and it was even sweeter that the Kazama family did what they do best by lending them help in various and very sweet ways.

The thing with the Kazama family saving Chris from being kidnapped by her dad back to Germany was cool.

The (optional) drunk threesome with Margit was also very cool.

German sandwich

But the whole thing just felt a little hollow because of the whole rape thing. It wasn't a "I'm dropping this now" kind of situation, and it's not even a "This route was bad because of this scenario" kind of situation. It's a game from 2009, and I think the baggage this game has because of that is not something that brings it down -- it's good despite of and because of that baggage. Like how occupational hazards make work at the jobsite wackier and funnier.

The route managed to stick the landing, at least...

Up next

After a bit of a break an extended period of being too stressed out at work to enjoy reading, I'm going back to this game to read Momoyo's route next. I understand that Momoyo feels no romantic attraction towards him, and that Yamato's confessed to her before and she turned him down, so I'm excited to see how that changes.

I don't imagine you'll be waiting long, Shakadou

Funny screenshots

genuinely didn't know this
